Habitats: Open deciduous woodland, scrub, hedgerows and gardens.
Habits: The moth rests on tree trunks, posts and fences during the day. It flies in the evening and at dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Rowan, sometimes Wall Cotoneaster and there is one record from Common Juniper. It feeds from a silk tube between two or more of the uppermost leaves spun flat. Its feeding causes pale brown blotches on the leaves. It pupates in a flimsy cocoon in the leaf litter. On the European mainland it is also recorded as feeding on Apple, Wild Plum, Pear, Common Whitebeam and Snowy Mespilus.
