Habitats: Deciduous woodland, parkland, hedgerows and gardens.

Habits: The moth rests in crevices on elm trunks during the day. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds in the spring on Wych Elm and other elms from either a folded leaf or spun leaves and shoots. It pupates under bark on the trunk. On the European mainland it has been recorded feeding on oaks, Ash, limes, Hazel, Wild Cherry, maples and Firethorn.
