45.043 Hemp Agrimony Plume Adaina microdactyla (Hübner, [1813])

Common

Similar species:

Forewing: 6 to 8mm

Habitats: Downland scrub, open woodland, marshy grassland, other damp areas and wet flushes on coastal cliffs.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in the day. It flies from dusk and later comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva bores the stem of Hemp Agrimony causing a gall at a node near the base of the flower-head. Frass exudes from the gall and the flowers fail. The full-fed larva overwinters in the stem, its presence is indicated by a small hole. It also pupates in the stem in a short, upward angled mine with a partially plugged entrance hole.
