Habitats: Chalk and limestone grassland, rough grassland and fens.
Habits: The moth flies early in the morning. It is easily disturbed in the day from its rest on fences, tree trunks and vegetation. The moth flies from dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain and Ireland. On the European mainland the polyphagous larva spins the leaves of Ox-eye Daisy, plantains, docks, Bird's-foot Trefoil and other herbaceous plants. It pupates between spun leaves.
