Forewing: 7 to 10mm
Habitats: Calcareous downland, coastal downland, wasteground and vegetated shingle.
Habits: It is easily disturbed during the day. The moth flies from dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The newly hatched larva immediately hibernates. In the spring it spins immature flower-heads and feeds on the ripening seeds or spins terminal leaves and eats out the growing tip.
