Habitats: Open deciduous woodland and hedgerows.
Habits: The moth flies high in the trees from dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The polyphagous larva feeds on deciduous trees including Sessile Oak, Pedunculate Oak, Sweet Chestnut, Beech, Hornbeam, Silver Birch and Wild Cherry. It feeds in a rolled or folded leaf or curled leaf edge, on brown, withered or dead leaves caught in the lower canopy of trees. It pupates in its feeding place, but sometimes elsewhere.
