Tortricidae

49.059 Green Oak Tortrix Tortrix viridana (Linnaeus, 1758)

Common

Similar species: Cream-bordered Green Pea Earias clorana is only superficially similar as it is green and of roughly the same size (10 to 12mm). It has a cream streak along the leading edge and sits in a tent like pose rather than flat.

Forewing: 8 to 11mm

Habitats: Deciduous woodland, parkland, scrub and hedgerows with trees.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed during the day. It flies from dusk and later comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds in the buds, then later in a rolled or folded leaf of oaks, although it will occasionally feed on Sycamore, Beech, poplars, willows, Hornbeam, Bilberry, Stinging Nettle and other plants. It pupates in a folded leaf or in the foliage below.
