Habitats: Woodland, parkland and heathland scrub.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in the day and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds from bunches of spun leaves on birches and less often Alder and Bog-myrtle. It usually pupates in the larval spinning.
