Habitats: Woodland and coastal cliffs.
Habits: It flies during the evening and from sunset. It only rarely comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the flowers and developing seeds in an immature flower-head of Goldenrod. It moves from flower to flower, while lightly spinning them. Its presence can be detected by looking for unopened flower-heads. In September it overwinters full-fed in a cocoon on the ground, where it pupates in April.
