Habitats: Marshes, fens, ditches, natural and garden ponds, damp woodland rides and other sites where the foodplants are present.
Habits: It flies in the evening and comes to light
Foodplant: The larva lives within the stems of Water Mint and Gypsywort, entering at a joint and working its way upwards while feeding on the pith. The lower part of the mine is full of frass. From October the full-fed larva overwinters in the stem, where it pupates in a white cocoon in May.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Water-plantain.
