Forewing: 7 to 11mm
Habitats: Arable fields, downland, coastal slopes or wherever the foodplants are present.
Habits: It is easily disturbed during the day, flies during the evening and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in the roots of thistles in the genus Carduus and probably Cirsium. In October the full-fed larva overwinters in a cocoon, where it pupates in May.
