Habitats: Mainly calcareous grassland, but also quarries, downland and breckland heaths.
Habits: The moth flies from sunset onwards and occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in the roots of Common Knapweed, Small Scabious and probably Field Scabious and Greater Knapweed. It overwinters full-fed from October in a spinning in the root where it pupates in April.
