Local
Similar species:
Forewing: 4.5 to 8mm
Habitats: Open woodland and grassland, scrub, field margins, wasteground, embankments, river-banks and road verges.
Habits: The moth flies around Teasel heads in afternoon sunshine. It is easy to disturb from rest, but hard to see resting on a Teasel head as it is the same colour as the flowers. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the ripening seeds of Teasel, tunnelling through the seed scales forming a silk tunnel, but not entering the central cavity. It pupates in early May in a dense cocoon in the larval tunnel, later emerging from between the seed scales.
