Habitats: Open woodland, field margins, calcareous grassland, sandy grassland and coastal slopes.
Habits: The moth flies in the late evening and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the flowers and unripe seeds of Hawkweed Oxtongue, Bristly Oxtongue and hawk's-beards. The full-fed larva overwinters from October in a dense silk cocoon spun amongst leaf litter, where it pupates in late April.
