Habitats: Rough ground and grasslands where the foodplants are found.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in the late afternoon. It flies in the evening and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in the flowers and seed-head of Common Ragwort, Rough Hawk's-beard, Smooth Hawk's-beard, Perennial Sow-thistle, Goldenrod, hawkweeds and other Compositae. In October the full-fed second generation larva overwinters in a cocoon spun amongst the leaf litter, where it pupates in April.
