49.139 Black-fronted Straw Cochylichroa atricapitana (Stephens, 1852)

Common

Similar species:

Forewing: 5.5 to 7.5mm

Habitats: Sea-cliffs and coastal slopes, rough grassland, field margins, horticultural land and wasteground.

Habits: It can sometimes be disturbed in the day, the male flies at sunset, the female later. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The first generation larva feeds on the flowers and in the flower stalks of Common Ragwort, where it pupates. The second generation larva feeds in the lower part of the stem and rootstock, where the full-fed larva overwinters in a white cocoon from October onwards, pupating there in April.
