Similar species:

Forewing: 7 to 7mm

Habitats: Chalk and limestone grassland, moorland, heathland and bogs.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed during warm days. It flies at dusk and later comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds in a seed-capsule of Cowslip, Lousewort, Yellow-rattle or Goldenrod. When the first generation larva is full-fed it spins a cocoon in the capsule. The full-fed larva of the second generation overwinters from September, in a cocoon amongst the leaf litter or in rotten wood, where it pupates in April.
