Habitats: Woodland rides and margins, scrub, hedgerows, calcareous downland, wasteground, orchards and gardens.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed, flies at dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on roses including cultivated varieties and sometimes on apples. It spins large bunches of leaves together and lives within. It pupates in the spinning.
