Tortricidae

49.159 Black-spot Marble Hedya atropunctana (Zetterstedt, 1839)

Local

Similar species: There is a variation in the amount and positioning of the pink to ochreous scales present, but the large black spot in the outer area of the wings distinguishes this moth from similar species.

Forewing: 6.5 to 7.5mm

Habitats: Moorland, damp heathland, mosses, damp woodland and hedgerows.

Habits: The moth flies during the evening and occasionally comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on Bog-myrtle, willows or birches or less often on limes, Beech, Alder or Hawthorn. When feeding on Bog-myrtle the larva spins the tips of terminal leaves to form a ball-shaped shelter. When on willows and birches it folds a succession of leaves lengthways to form 'pods'. It pupates in a spinning amongst the leaf litter.
