Forewing: 7 to 9mm

Habitats: Arable field margins, rough grassland, verges, embankments, sand-dunes, vegetated shingle and gardens.

Habits: The moth can be disturbed in the day. It flies late in the evening and comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds from a silk tube on the roots of Perennial Sow-thistle, Prickly Sow-thistle and dandelions. It pupates in a dense cocoon just below the soil.
