Habitats: Open woodland, woodland rides, wooded heathland and newly coppiced clearings.

Habits: The moth flies in the day, spending a lot of time basking on herbage in sheltered situations. It occasionally comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on the withered and decaying leaves of low-growing herbaceous plants and the fallen leaves of trees and shrubs. From August (in captivity), it overwinters under the leaf litter and recommences feeding in the spring. Pupation takes place in a cocoon in the folded edge of a leaf in the leaf litter.
