Habitats: Woodland, hedgerows and heathland.

Habits: The moth flies around the tops of birch trees from early afternoon until an hour before sunset. It occasionally comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds within a folded leaf or two leaves spun together on birches, elms or occasionally Goat Willow. The leaves may be partly skeletonised. It overwinters full-fed, spun in a cocoon in the larval habitation which falls to the ground in autumn. It pupates there in April.
