49.207 Willow Hook-wing Ancylis geminana (Donovan, 1806)

Local

Similar species:

Forewing: 5.5 to 8.5mm

Habitats: Damp woodland, marshes and fens, wet moorland and bogs.

Habits: The moth flies in the afternoon and around the sallows at dusk. It occasionally comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva spins a folded leaf to form a 'pod' on Eared Willow, Grey Willow and perhaps other willows (but not Creeping Willow). The larva overwinters full-fed in a cocoon in the leaf litter, usually pupating in April, although some may pupate straight away.
