49.214 Meadow Hook-wing Ancylis badiana ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Common

Similar species:

Forewing: 5 to 7.5mm

Habitats: Grassland, scrub, woodland rides, quarries, wasteground and vegetated shingle.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in the day. It has a short flight period just after sunrise and flies again in the late afternoon and evening. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva at first mines a leaf of Meadow Vetchling, vetches, White Clover or other clovers. It later spins two leaves together if on Meadow Vetchling or folds a single leaflet if on vetches or clovers. The second generation larva overwinters full-fed in the larva habitation or in a spun leaf on the ground. It pupates there in April.
