Common

Similar species:

Forewing: 5.5 to 7.5mm

Habitats: Deciduous woodland.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in the day. It flies in the evening and comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on oak, Beech, Sweet Chestnut or occasionally birch. It spins a leaf into a large 'pod' and feeds within the spinning. The full-fed larva overwinters in a cocoon in the leaf litter or in the last larval habitation, which falls to the ground in the autumn. It pupates in April.
