Similar species:

Forewing: 5 to 7mm

Habitats: Heathland birch scrub and scrub on grassland, wet moorland and mosses.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in the day. It flies in the evening and comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva lives in a tube of spun leaves on Downy Birch which have been stunted by grazing. The full-fed larva overwinters in a cocoon within a few freshly spun leaves where it pupates in April.
