Similar species:
Forewing: 7.5 to 10mm
Habitats: Open short turf, breckland, coastal wasteground, sand-dunes and vegetated shingle.
Habits: The moth sits on the flowers of the foodplant in sunny weather. It flies at dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the flower-heads of Yarrow, Field Wormwood and Stinking Chamomile, sometimes spinning several together. An occasional larva may overwinter and recommence feeding in the spring, but the larva is usually full-fed in the autumn and overwinters in the leaf litter where it pupates in late May.
On the European mainland Ox-eye Daisy, Yellow Chamomile and Mugwort are also recorded as foodplants.
