Similar species:
Forewing: 5.5 to 8mm
Habitats: Open woodland, parkland, scrub, sand-dunes, moorland, hedgerows, orchards and gardens.
Habits: The moth flies from just before dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The polyphagous larva feeds on apples, pears, quince, Hawthorn, Blackthorn, whitebeams, brambles, Firethorn and other Rosaceae. It also feeds on Sea Buckthorn, willows, Hornbeam, oaks, Alder, Bog-myrtle, Broad-leaved Dock and Sea Spurge. At first it feeds on the underside of a leaf in an open ended silk tube. It overwinters while still small in a silk spinning on a twig. In the spring it recommences feeding on the leaf and fruit buds, later spinning a bunch of leaves together where it feeds until full-fed. It then pupates in the spinning.
