49.233 Varied Birch Roller Epinotia solandriana (Linnaeus, 1758)

Common

Similar species:

Forewing: 7.5 to 10mm

Habitats: Open woodland and heathland scrub.

Habits: The moth flies at dusk and later comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva lives in a leaf rolled lengthways, on birches, Hazel, Goat Willow and sometimes Bog-myrtle and roses. On Bog Myrtle it draws the terminal leaves of a shoot against the stem and spins them to form a shelter. It pupates in the soil or in the spinning.
