Similar species: Grey forms could be mistaken for Epinotia cinereana.
Forewing: 5.5 to 8mm
Habitats: Woodland, parkland, hedgerows, wet heathland, coastal marshland, river-banks and gardens.
Habits: The moth rests on trunks and foliage during the day. It flies at dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the catkins or within two flat spun leaves of Grey Willow, Goat Willow, Aspen, Black Poplar or Grey Poplar. It either pupates in the larval habitation or in a brown silk cocoon in the leaf litter.
