Similar species:
Forewing: 6 to 9mm
Habitats: Sea-cliffs, quarries, limestone pavement and open woodland.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in warm sunshine. It flies at sunset and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in the flower-heads of Goldenrod or Michaelmas Daisy, at first spinning the central buds, but later mining down into the stem. In September the full-fed larva constructs a cocoon in the earth or the leaf litter, where it overwinters until it pupates in early April.
