Habitats: Wasteground, open woodland, quarries, embankments, coastal landslips, vegetated shingle and sand-dunes.
Habits: The moth flies in afternoon sunshine and frequently lands on its foodplant. It continues its flight until dusk and occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in the roots of Colt's-foot and occasionally Winter Heliotrope. In the spring it moves up into the flower stem. It pupates in the rootstock or amongst the roots of the foodplant.
