Habitats: Open woodland, scrub, hedgerows, calcareous downland and gardens.
Habits: The moth flies at dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in a succession of spun upper terminal shoots of Hawthorn. It pupates in the larval habitation.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded from Blackthorn and Wild Pear.
