Habitats: Conifer plantations, mixed woodland, heathland with pines and parkland.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from the needles during the day and occasionally flies in sunshine. It flies in the evening and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in the young lateral shoots of Scots Pine, hollowing out a shoot and causing a slight resin flow. It overwinters in a hollowed bud. It pupates in the larval feeding place at a shoot tip or occasionally in a spinning of needles.
