Forewing: 4.5 to 5.5mm

Habitats: Coniferous woodland and pines on heathland and moorland.

Habits: The moth flies around the tops of pines in sunshine during the late morning, the afternoon and at sunset. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva lives within the cones of Scots Pine and Black Pine, feeding inside a seed. When full-fed the larva hollows out the apex of the seed scale where it overwinters and in late March or April it pupates.
