Similar species:
Forewing: 5 to 6mm

Habits: The moth occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva inhabits the old or fresh galls of the beetle Saperda populnea found on the twigs of Aspen. This longhorn beetle causes a rounded swelling in a stem of Aspen. The moth larva feeds on the wood in the gall and on the bark. Its presence is indicated by frass exuding from the gall or stuck to its surface.
