Habits: The moth flies around conifers during sunny afternoons and flies again at dusk and occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds from a silk-lined tunnel under the bark of Scots Pine or Black Pine. It can be detected by the large quantities of red-brown frass exuding from holes at the edge of loose bark fragments in March and April. It pupates in the feeding place.
