Habitats: Woodland margins and hedgerows.
Habits: The moth flies around elms in afternoon sunshine.
Foodplant: The larva feeds (sometimes gregariously) in the decaying bark of elms, especially pollards. On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Sycamore and Beech. It pupates in the feeding place or under loose bark.
