Similar species:

Forewing: 4.5 to 5.5mm

Habitats: Woodland margins, parkland, scrub, hedgerows, orchards, amenity planting and gardens.

Habits: The moth flies around trees at any time of the day when there is sunshine, dropping onto the foliage when it becomes overcast. It occasionally comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds in the spun flowers or immature berries of Hawthorn or Dogwood or the spun immature fruit of apples, pears, Wild Plum or Sour Cherry. The larva tunnels into the fruit to eat the flesh. In July the full-fed larva constructs a cocoon in bark, dead wood or in the soil where it overwinters until it pupates in April.
