Similar species:

Forewing: 9 to 17mm. The females are usually larger than the males.

Habitats: Coastal sand-dunes and fine shingle.

Habits: The moth flies in early morning sunshine. On warm, calm nights just after dusk, it makes short flights from stem to stem between grasses and other low plants. It occasionally comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds from a vertical silk-lined tube in the sand on Whitish Feather-moss Brachythecium albicans. It pupates in the silk tube about 3 to 4cm below the surface.
