Similar species: Acrobasis repandana has an orange basal area to the forewings and generally brighter markings.

Habitats: Oak woodland, parkland, scrub and gardens.
Habits: The moth flies from dusk and comes to light and sugar.
Foodplant: The larva overwinters while small. In the spring it feeds gregariously in a spun mass of leaves on Pedunculate Oak, other oaks and sometimes Hornbeam. It pupates in a cocoon attached to a leaf in the spinning.
