Habitats: Stables, barns, farm buildings, mills, animal shelters, gardens, houses and outhouses.
Habits: The moth flies from dusk onwards, but can be found in the day resting on indoor walls. It is occasionally recorded in the wider countryside and comes to light and sugar.
Foodplant: The larva feeds from a tough silk gallery attached to something solid. It feeds on cereals and cereal waste and can have a two year cycle. It pupates in a dense cocoon in the feeding place.
