Habitats: Woodland, scrub, parkland, heathland and moorland.
Habits: The moth rests on tree trunks during the day and is easily disturbed. It flies from dusk and later comes to light and visits flowers.
Foodplant: The larva feeds from a silk tube amongst mosses on walls, stones or on the ground including Broom Fork-moss Dicranum scoparium, Cypress-leaved Plait-moss Hypnum cupressiforme and Campylopus spp. It pupates in the moss.
