Habitats: Short-turfed dry grassland, coastal sand-dunes, heathland and occasionally gardens.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in the day and occasionally flies during the evening. It flies again from dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva lives at the roots and stem bases of Tufted Hair-grass and other grasses. It feeds from a silk tube with frass and debris attached. It pupates in a cocoon at the end of its silk tube.
