Habitats: Grasslands, calcareous downland, wasteground, heathland and gardens.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from tall grasses during the day. It flies from dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds from a vertical silk gallery up the base of a stem, but not reaching the soil. It is found on Wavy Hair-grass, meadow-grasses or other grasses. It pupates in an oval, frass-covered cocoon amongst the roots of its foodplant.
