Habitats: Grasslands, wasteground, sandy heathland, calcareous downland, vegetated shingle and sand-dunes.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from short grasses during the day. It flies from dusk and later comes to light and sugar.
Foodplant: It lives in a flimsy silk gallery amongst the roots and stem bases of Sheep's-fescue, Bristle Bent or meadow-grasses. It pupates in a cocoon on the ground.
