Similar species:

Forewing: 14 to 18mm

Habitats: Woodland, scrub, heathland and bogs. In sunny, sheltered situations, preferring two metre high birch saplings or re-growth.

Habits: The moth can be disturbed during the day. Both sexes are attracted to light.

Foodplant: The larva is found on Silver Birch and Downy Birch. It feeds from the upper surface of the leaves. Both generations pupate in spun leaves on the tree. The autumn generation pupal spinning falls to the ground.
