Similar species:

Forewing: 30 to 46mm

Habitats: Marshes, fens, heathland, lowland moorland, woodland, parkland and gardens.

Habits: The female comes to light in the evening, the male usually after midnight.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on White Poplar, Black Poplar, Lombardy Poplar, Aspen, Grey Willow, Goat willow and other sallows and willows. It pupates under the soil near the base of the tree on which it was feeding.
