Immigrant

Similar species: Striped Hawk-moth Hyles livornica has white veins across the forewing.

Forewing: 33 to 35mm

Habitats: Open coastal areas.

Habits: The moth comes to light quite early in the evening. It also visits Ivy and other blossoms.

Foodplant: The larva feeds mainly on Virginia Creeper and Grape-vine. The larva is rarely recorded in Britain. The species is considered unable to survive the British winter.

On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Lady's-bedstraw, Great Willowherb, Fuschia, bindweeds, Honeysuckle and mulleins.
