Similar species: The larger Mullein Wave (12 to 15mm) Scopula marginepunctata may seem similar until put alongside this species. The markings have less contrast and it has less pointed forewings

Habitats: Heather covered slopes, often where there are areas of lichen covered rocks.
Habits: During the day the moth can be found sitting under rocky overhangs, in crevices or sometimes openly on rocks. It flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds mainly on the shoots of Heather. It has also been recorded feeding on Crowberry and Navelwort. In captivity it will accept Knotgrass, chickweed and Dandelion.
